There's a device I don't recognize. What do I do?
Check smart TVs, speakers, plugs and visitors' phones first. Give the ones you know a nickname. If you still can't place one, change your Wi-Fi password and reconnect your own devices.
Why It Matters
A device you don't know could be a neighbor using your Wi-Fi, or something you simply forgot about. Knowing what's on your Wi-Fi helps you spot real problems.
What To Do
- Walk around the house and list smart TVs, speakers, plugs, cameras, printers and game consoles.
- Ask family and visitors if their phones or laptops joined.
- Give each device you know a nickname in Vigil, so new ones stand out next time.
- If one still doesn't fit, change your Wi-Fi password in your router's settings, then reconnect your own devices.
