Vigil Learn › Email And Passwords
What is two-step sign-in?
After your password, the site asks for a code from your phone. Even if someone steals your password, they can't get in. Turn it on for your email first, since it can reset everything else.
Why It Matters
Passwords leak all the time. A second step means a stolen password alone isn't enough to get into your account.
What To Do
- Sign in to your email account and open its security settings.
- Look for a setting usually called 2-Step Verification or Two-Factor Authentication, and turn it on.
- If it offers a passkey or an authenticator app, those are safer than text message codes.
- Save any backup codes somewhere safe, like your Passwords app.
- Check your Apple Account too: Settings > [your name] > Sign-In & Security.
